Raleigh's Glenwood Village French Bakery (a.k.a. Patisserie)…

Want another Raleigh cafe option to Starbucks?  …Hereghty Patisserie and Café has been in Raleigh for 4 years.   Over the weekend,  I compared Starbucks coffee to McCafe coffee. Well…today I’m comparing Starbucks to Glenwood Village’s Hereghty Heavnely Delicious Patisserie and Café (that’s a mouth full) . The place is owned by two Suisse brothers. I met co-owner Brian pictured here.

French Patisserie in Raleigh

This place stood out to me because in Raleigh, there’s only a handful of French pastries. And you don’t really expect much because look where we’re at. I mean let’s be real…Raleigh is no big city with a lot of international cuisines.

So even if the shop is run by owners who have French influence, were born French, learned French cuisine all their lives…well, let’s be blunt, no top French Chef is coming now to our small but growing town of Raleigh to open a French coffee restaurant…well, unless they’re looking for places to retire. And that would be like a needle in a haystack. I mean owning a small coffee shop is really a crap business (unless you’re an exception like Starbucks). Low margins and long hours. Need I say more?

But putting that aside, I really did enjoy the brief time I was at Hereghty’s Patisserie. It was a nice change from the regular Raleigh coffee places I’m used to entering. And, it is a beautiful day and I’m sure Apollo would have loved to have put on his doggie beret and sit outside with me at their outdoor bistro tables.

If you’re looking for something sweet and decadent, this place will solve that issue fast. My favorite breakfast sweet when I’m indulging is a chocolate croissant. Theres are flakey and not too buttery. Just the way I like it.

They have a lunch menu too with salads, quiches, Panini, and flatbread pizzas that you can eat with coffee or a glass of wine. So it’s a place to try if you want to feel like you’ve been whisked away to a French pastry shop or just want to try a new coffee place.
