In Search of A Good Raleigh Diner

Something I really miss from living in Virginia is a diner like Silver Diner. They have the retro 50s juke box and the mini ones at each table. And they’ve got the red shiny vinyl seats. If you’ve never been, it’s your classic American diner chain serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.Remember the sitcom”Alice” from the 70s and 80s? It was about 3 diner waitresses named Alice, Vera and Flo who worked for Mel’s Diner. Mel was the mean boss who Flo used to respond to cynically in her Texan accent, “Youuu can kee-ss ma greets!” or “Whan don-kay’s flah!”

Unlike Mel’s Diner, the Silver Diner chain that’d I’d dined in, wasn’t like a truck stop, hole in the wall diner. It was more like the revived modern version like the Peach Pit from Beverly Hill 90210 show where the gang was often found hanging out. …And even the chic four some ladies in “Sex in the City” had their best get together dish sessions at a New York City diner. That’s where Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker’s character) announced to her friends that Burger broke up with her on a Post-it. In case you didn’t watch the show, Burger (nickname, I hope) was one of her boyfriends…he was more like a Cheese-burger! So with all these shows, no wonder why I was influenced with diners growing up!

In Raleigh, I’ve been to Courtney’s and Brigs Restaurants which are well known breakfast restaurants but they’re usually packed with a wait especially on Sunday’s. There aren’t a lot of tables either in these two small restaurants. At a diner you don’t have to wait long, if at all. If there’s a line, you can always choose to sit at the diner bar. And diners serve breakfast, lunch, or dinner foods or anything on their menus all day.  So if you’re having a late night out and wanting some real food munchies, diners are usually the cool places to go.  So somewhere in Raleigh, there’s a diner that’s waiting for me where I could maybe be a regular…

Tell me what Triangle diners and locally owned late night munchie hangout places that you like that I just have to try…
