Raleigh Scrapbooking and Cardmaking Events…

scrappers-express-club-pageEven before I got to Raleigh, I liked to make paper things like cute cards. Maybe ‘cause I’m a scrapbooker. That’s such a strange way to classify myself but there are many women out there doing the same thing. I mean I like to travel and try new restaurants too, but I’d never say I’m a traveler or restaurant tryer. But anyway…

These days, I admit I’m more a scrapbook collector. In other words, I own scrapbook stuff and a lot of it! Well no more than the average scrapbooker (there I go again using that “s” word). Don’t worry, I’ll get around to using it…uh-huh, when’s the last time you’ve heard those famous last words? Well, it’s truuue. I WILL get around to it because I don’t believe in waste. I know I’m not the only one my age…sad to say it’s much more of an older than me generation thing, but even when it comes to paper, I don’t like to waste. So I hang onto that stuff for another rainy day… as they say.

One of my neighbors is also into this type of stuff and she introduced me to the website of a local Raleigh Stampin’ Up Consultant, Catherine Pooler. What intrigued me about this website, was that the cards made were whimsical, colorful and modern. None of that old fashioned country bumpkin look…that’s just not for me. Plus, she used a lot of hot pink which is my favorite color if I had to pick just one. Okay…I also like blues, oranges, reds, white, purples, browns…okay, there’s not a color I don’t like. Yellows are probably my least favorite if I had to say but that’s only if I had to say..

So I got on this Stampin Up gal’s email list and emailed her once or twice. She had different classes and I wanted to come to one to make cards. I finally did attend and found myself immersed in conversation with small groups of women I didn’t previously know, and using different tools to make a card look just like her sample. It was really fun plus I got to show off my cards to my husband when he got home and as a bonus he got two hours to the house and TV all to himself, with no female interruption.

But back up just a bit…. before I left that first class, Catherine told me about her hostess club program. Each month, club members could attend a free class that was being offered, and purchase product like a stamp set or something equivalent. And one month during membership, each member would become a hostess and get the choice of free gifts that came along with the amount of total sales from everyone in the Club. I became a member and that was a lot of fun too. It was something I looked forward to every month. It was a good creative and social outlet for me. I met some great people and there were even some younger people there that liked making cards. Catherine is always friendly and gracious. And there’s always coffee or drinks and some sweets… besides the cupcake stamps.

yummy-and-sweet-cupcake-stamps1The cupcake set I own, by the way, is my favorite stamp set I got as a hostess gift… and you can too. I use them on my scrapbooks and cards I’ve made. I love ‘em! There’s nothing more special than sending a card you made to someone versus one you bought. Nothing wrong with buying cards but they’re not guaranteed to be kept after the occasion – not like homemade cards. And it’s easier than you think to make a card! You don’t have to be creative in the least bit to follow how it’s made. Well, If you don’t like arts and crafts, then don’t bother… but otherwise it’s just simple step 1-2-3 type stuff. And you get a lot of help from others. It’s all just fun.

Here’s an upcoming event you can attend or to find out more, contact catherinepooler@hotmail.com
