Start your Raleigh morning with a meal and a coffee deal
At Mickey D’s as I grew up calling it, coffee is about half the price of Starbucks’ specialty coffee or any coffee joint in Raleigh, plus you don’t have to go inside if you’re feeling lazy (it’s usually quicker just to go in). But Starbucks does have a promotional deal through June for a Grande iced brewed coffee for around $2. I’m pretty sure this will not be their only promotion or “value menu” item in the upcoming months ahead…
But McDonald’s has always been a good value (if you’re willing to splurge on not the healthiest option). And especially on their breakfast menu, I really like their McCafe iced mocha coffee without whipped cream when I’m being good. And I don’t drink much coffee at all…I’m really more a tea drinker, but once in awhile I like my coffee.
Who would’ve thought that Mickey D’s would come up with specialty coffees to compete with Starbucks? I mean that’s like the cheap guy competing with the crème-de-la-crème (or the cream of the crop). That just rarely happens successfully with the same customers. But I’m living proof that for McDonalds, it’s working!
McDonald’s is truly a phenomenon and a text book business case. Everyone has eaten there and they continue to outdo themselves with their value menus. In the Sunday ads, you’ll find some sweet McCafe deals where you can get a free iced or hot coffee for free if you buy a sandwich or just a free coffee with no purchase! My sandwich of choice this morning was the Egg McMuffin. So for my favorite breakfast sandwich at McDonalds plus my McCafe iced mocha coffee, it cost me a whoppin’ $2.69, and that includeds tax! Can’t beat that!!
Oh, and since it’s Friday, I thought it’d be fun to talk about some fun memories about McDonalds. Do you have any fun McDonalds memories?
For me, it was the big local hang out spot for young teens back in my day. We didn’t have all these expensive options like the teens have today. But even before then, I remember in grade school, probably around 2nd grade or so, they took us on a field trip to McDonalds to see how the business ran “in action” from toasting the buns to adding the burger patties, pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard. I remember it was super exciting to watch French fries go into the fryer…hey, when you’re 8 years old it doesn’t take much to excite!
McDonalds also used to be the place where they threw birthday parties that I’d attended. If it wasn’t at the birthday girl or boy’s house, it was at McDonalds or at the local roller rink. Roller skating was big back then. I could do a few spins myself, …oh and shoot the duck. Roller skating has actually made a bit of a comeback. But, there was no Chuck E. Cheese back then. Oh and certainly NO spa parties back then for teens like they have now! Gosh, I didn’t discover the spa until sometime in my twenties! Amazing how times have changed! I’m not sure overall which generation is really the luckiest in the end… that’s something to think about over the weekend…
