Arbys Fast Food Free Roast Burger Sandwich

You’ve probably seen the advertisements for Arby’s new Roast Beef Burger or Roast Burger. The new “…never fried, never greasy, oven roasted, thinly sliced roast beef”.  There’s a free coupon out in the paper for this Roast Burger with the purchase of a drink. So for lunch today, I thought I’d give it a try. Besides, Arby’s is just around the corner for me. As my drink, I ordered a passion fruit iced tea to go with it. There’s also a mango, diet peach and diet blackberry tea. They use Splenda.  Flavored teas always look and sound so much better to me than they taste.

If you don’t have the coupon, there’s also a Sunday freebie… on Sunday, if you say to the order taker “I’m here to change my burger” and buy a drink, they’ll give you the Roast Burger for free.

Arby’s is really trying hard with their 4 for $5 menu. You have to actually buy 4 of the pre-selected items for the $5. But that’s still a really good fast food deal. I think they’re competing head to head or close to with McDonald’s dollar menu. Arby has got things like shakes, chicken bites, and the Jr. roast beef sandwich on this menu.

So I also got a Junior roast beef sandwich. I hadn’t had one in I can’t remember how long…maybe since I was a kid, but I’m just wondering… DID IT SHRINK? I mean I opened this fluffy foil package and there’s this dinky ‘lil bun and some roast beef hidden inside. I guess I was expecting a real sandwich and not a ‘lil Happy Meal Cheeseburger companion . Hey – but you get whatcha pay for! I paid $1.79 so that’s probably what I should’ve expected.

So after I woofed down the ‘lil roast beef bite, I opened the Roast Burger that’s packaged in a cardboard box. That sandwich is much bigger so I’m a little relieved. I may not be a physically big person, but I MUST SAY, I sure do have an appetite!  Ask my husband. He’ll tell you. When he asks if I’m hungry, I’m not usually. But then once you put some food in front of me OR him, I’m the one who gobbles it down. I’m usually done before him and HE was the hungry one! That’s gotta be on his top 5 predictible things list for me. Interesting, he doesn’t bug me about it though. I guess he’d rather me eat, then stare at an emaciated wife.

But really I’m not a big fast food eater…but sure, I’m aware of all the burgers and junk food out there! I mean how can you Not unless you’re a model and then all you eat are salad greens or something like that! When you drive across North Carolina state, unless you starve or bring your own food, fast food is really all there is. So there’s not a lot of getting around that once in awhile.

But back to the new Roast Burger. It reminded me of Burger King’s Whopper sandwich. It’s messy like that with a lot of mayonnaise and mustard with onions and pickles oozing out the sides. It’s a shame in my opinion. Considering roast beef is pretty good meat and then they gotta hide it with a lotta dressing. I know some people who just love that super dressed up sandwich! But either way, they actually do put a decent amount of roast beef in that thing. I’m sure my dog Apollo would give it great ratings! A thumbs up if he had an opposable thumb.

I used to LOVE roast beef when I was younger.

Your tastes change though as you get older. As a kid, I always wanted to go to Arby’s over any other fast food restaurant. Back then, I think it was more like a gourmet sandwich. As you get older, you try a lot of other foods and get spoiled with really good foods. And in the ‘70s and early ‘80s they didn’t have Subway and Quizno’s and all those fancy sandwich places.
